I am getting ready to rebuild my carburetor on an 86 yamaha virago 700 and was looking for some pointers before I start... I've never done this before...

I happen to have in my possesion a pair of carbs off an '86 Virago 700 (for sale!).
I currently own an '87 Virago 1100.
I also have the aftermarket service manual. I can try to upload some of the info if you have specific needs. There are few pitfalls to watch for, but several presets to be aware of.
Do you have any prior experience with carburator work?

I do not have any experience, this will be my first time... I do not want to simply replace it though... I bought this bike as a starter bike to introduce myself to fixing and mantaining a bike till I buy a new one... I am a hands on type of guy and was just looking for some pointers if anyone had some... thanks for the offer though...

The best advise I can give you at this point: besides making certain you have the proper overhaul kit on hand before beginning, only disassemble of the carbs one at a time. And don't completely seperate the pair, either, as that would make balancing them later much more difficult. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Well one thing that helps is a super clean work bench, and I always like to put down a white piece of cloth, or a piece of an old white sheet. Do your disassembling and reassembling on/over the white cloth, the white cloth will aid in seeing all the parts and aid you in the process of keeping it all organized.
