I have been having trouble with my car.

It has been over revving, it does not idle properly and it has caused the car to Kangeroo on occasion and generally had no umph. I also cannot start the car straight off, I have to rev it in order to get the engine going. I put it into a garage yesterday and it has come back a lot better, and it now has umph, but it still isn't idling properly and I still have to rev the car to start it.

It's a yr 2000 model (so it's only 5yrs old), 1.1 engine.

Any ideas what might be causing the problem? Peugeot garages charge and arm and leg and I really cannot afford it.

You mean apart from it being French

If you are lucky its something simple like a sticking throttle or fueling issue.
If you not it could be the ECU or you have dropped a valve, either are going to cost a bomb.

Now's the time to test your man's metal and see if he can fix it with a Haynes manual.

Look around the site,ask a question.Er,nothing like this forum,looks a bit messy I'm afraid,but if you can get a reasonable answer,then if the local garage tries to "sell you a dummy!!",you can,hopefully,tell them that you know what your talking about.The third question down is about the Peugeot 106.

You think they charge arm and leg over there, you should try and get one repaired over here in the US. I owned a one back in the 80's, and we had to have the oil and air filters shipped in to MO from Chiacgo IL.
Gettest car I ever drove for handling, the most expensive car to own I ever drove.

I am not a car place, may be cheaper to send your boyfriend to mechanic school ( just joking)

don't really know anything about cars, but wanted you to know that from my experence they need alot and alot of service to keep running ok

well my bloke seems to know a bit about cars - so hopefully he can or knows someone that can. I am nowway taking it to a peugeot garage they will just rip me off.

Why is it all you blokes take the piss out of Peugeots?!

I had a ford focus in 2000, I loved it but there were some drawbacks in getting the car the first year it came out. I had 7 recalls on the car for safety things. I guess now that the car has had its fixes I am sure it is a great car. I felt so comfortable in it. More then I do with the car I have now. I wanted to purchase a car that has a longer lasting vehicle. Focus was not really rated for long term lasting. Could be different depending on where you live for example up here in Canada with the Cold winter weather.

Hmnn.The Focus I have,the Sport model,is reliable,handles easily,is good at weaving in and out of traffic.I like "beeping" the car-horn at pedestrians,when ever I accidently hit the kerb.Do they jump,or what?

My version is also quite quick,and economical to run.As a four door,it also offers a series of optional features that have migrated from bigger and more expensive cars, such as a navigation system with a large colour display screen, electrically adjustable pedals, adaptive (swivelling) headlamps, keyless locking, voice controls and Bluetooth mobile phone connection.All in all it's a dream to drive,and at £12,000,well worth the money.All I have to do now is spend the next ten years paying for it!!

Like I said the only problem I had was the 7 safety recalls but I made the mistake of buying it the first year. It is very sporty car. Had the hatchback. 2 door. My question was long term quality compared to Honda or Toyota.

I would suggest a Japan made car, if you're looking for a new car, like Honda, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Toyota or Nissan.

European cars just tend to break a whole lot faster than Japan made cars. I'm from Europe, and i know what i'm talking about - my dad drives a Volkswagen, sister drives a Seat, brother drives a Skoda and i drive a Honda, and who had the least problems with the car? Me, of course Even though it's been missused by my brother for 4 years (no oil change for 2 years) and despite the fact it's at least twice as old as the other cars.

About your problems with the car - when did you last change fuel filter, air filter and spark plugs?
