honda accord 2000 6 cyl " the light "check" is on"

My honda accord 2000 6 cyl. with 101000k miles is was with the light "check" on. I took
to a non-honda mechanic and he erased it. the computer said that the code is PO700, and the mechanic said that it needs to have the "transmission rebuilt", and the price ranges from $ 1500.00 - 1600.00.

my concern is that is it correct? As it is a major repair I don't want to take chance, and do you know if honda issued a recall for this problem? bcse with 101000k miles is to early for such thing, don't you think?

the full tune up was done at the 99000k miles where the time belt was tune, etc. at a honda dealer.

i would appreciate your help very, very much

b.regards
eni

note: the computer said to "use fewer capital letters"

P0700 is definitely a code indicating a problem with the transmission. If you have not changed the transmission fluid every 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first, you likely are facing a rebuild. Most ATXs are engineered to go 125,000 to 150,000 miles, before needing to be rebuilt. Personally, I would take it to Honda for a second opinion. If they say it needs a rebuild, then I'd have them do the work.
