Hi. We have some land in the city on the highway. We were thinking about buying and selling cars. We know there is a lot of work involved. I was just curious if anybody out there has done this before and how did it turn out. Not sure if this is the right place for this post.

First thing is to check with the state where you are going to have the dealership. There are a bunch of rules and a license involved. Next check with the city for a zone check to see if you are allowed to have a car sales dealership in that area.
Check with an insurance carrier for liability insurance for this type of business.
If a customer on a test drive wacks someone else or hurts themselves they can and will sue you.
Once you get this information you will be on your way.
BTW It costs big bucks to get into that business in my area.

Yes, I know in GA and TN there are alot of special laws just for them

I will guess you know all about car financing, doing the paper work

You have someone who is trained as a mechanci and have a buiding zoned properly for the office and a shop

Next you will have to have a state licnese and normally a city business license, you are going to have to have fairly expensive insurance also.

Where are you planing on geting your cars, local auctions, or do you have trasport rigs to go into other state auctions for cars.

Thank you for your info. My fiance and his brother were going to open a car detailing business on the land that their Dad had purchased for them for this purpose. Their Dad passed away and the business came to a halt- Mom never liked the idea of that business, even though Dad was doing this for the kids. Well we have thought about what to do with it and they have really been thinking of buying and selling cars. I was just wondering if anyone had personal experience. I have been looking around on the internet and realize that there is alot to learn. Thank you guys for the info.
