gas cap release

The gas cap release lever on my 2003 Honda Accord has stopped working. Periodically it will not release but does eventually release. This time it will not release and I am about out of gas! Does anyone know what is wrong or how to get the latch to release?

there is a little tab on the inside of the gas cover, make sure it is not ruster or that the cover is not really hard to swing open or closed. If it is moving freely and the tab is adjusted good, check the release pin which releases the cover. If it's moving in and out ( with the help of an other person) then you might have a problem with the door spring. if you don't have a door spring problem, then the cable might be broken for the pin, if the pin doesn't move. let me know it that was any help...?

Thank You - That does help, - but the more immediate problem is that I cannot get it to open at all now in order to check those things. I think I can probably pry it open but am afraid of what kind of damage I will cause.

You should have some one help you... have some one pull on the lever while you try and get the gas cover open... If it is stuck and still wont open then you might want to pass by the dealer and asked them to open it for you so YOU don't damage your car. They shouldn't charge unless theyare trying to repair it for you. Hope that works for ya.... !
