Ford Escort bumper removal

How to you remove the front bumper on a 1997 Ford Escort LX in order to get at the headlight assemblies?

Got the same problem except with a 94 Ford Escort LX. I am trying to put on a new RH (passenger side) fender and suspect to get it on I am going to have to remove the front bumper. Hopefully we can both get an answer.

I have the same headlight question with my 97 Escort LX. How did you install the headlight assembly?

It was actually quite easy. First you need to remove the bolts along the top of the assemblies, near where the prop ron sits. Then you need to take off the 4 bolts on the splash guards, closest to the front of the car. Once you get those off, you'll see 2 bolts inside, which basically hold the bumper cover on. Spray them with wd-40, then remove them. Do this for both sides, and the bumper cover will come right off. There will be one more screw on the bottom of the headlight assembly to removed, then disconnect the wiring, and the leadlights come right out. It was easier than I thought, but you'll still need a good 5 or 6 hours to do the whole job.

lamberfd agrees: Actually good information for file. Turns out we did not need to remove the bumper to mount the fender.
