    My ford 2.3 in a 91 ranger
Hey guys my problem is that I just swaped out a 2.3 for another 2.3 and when it runs it idles fine for a little bit then it seems like starts to miss then boggs out and dies and back fires like a cannon so bad it blew a brand new muffler out of round it kind of seems like it gets a rich smell of gas can anyone help me out ? When it doesn't run like crap it has lots of power and runs great but only for a little while or when I come to a idleling point

Could be a leaky fuel injector. If it is pouring gas in at idle, it is going to bog down and excess gas will backfire. If you have the old engine, try swapping out the fuel injector. From there, maybe try some of the sensors. Is it throwing any codes?

A fuel injector can cost way up in the $$$, your better off if the ones in the old engine are still good and you can use them. Either that or the injectors could be clogged. If the engine was setting like in a junkyard or in a doner car for a couple years, that's probably the problem a clogged injector etc. try running a code check as well though. If the injectors are clogged or dirty and restricting flow you could try injector cleaner but that may not help but so little.

Ford Ranger [ 1 Answers ]

2001 Ranger. I found dangling down from left side rear a hose with a cilp. It was attached to the axle housing. What is it for and where does it go. It just appears to be some type of air hose but is not attached to anything at other end. Should I be concerned? Thanks
