Civic key won't come out

My 90 honda civic key won't come out of the "lock" position in the ignition until you take the battery cable off. I've checked all the fuses and none of them seem to be bad. This is a real pain because if i leave the key in the ignition the battery will run dead. Help!

Do you have an interlock that won't let you take the key out unless it is in park? Try wiggling the gear shift around and see if that helps. If not, take the cover off and see if there is a little switch the gearshift should work when it is in park. See if working the switch frees the key. See if disconnecting or jumpering the switch does it. If so, the switch is bad. Otherwise see if you can adjust the switch or gear switch so the gearshift works it like it should. The switch could also be in the transmission.
