| If the old battery has set around long, it may not have much of a charge either. Try connecting a light bulb across each battery. If it doesn't give a nice white light, the battery is dead. If the old battery lights the bulb OK, connect it up, positive to positive and negative to negative just like using jumper cables from another car.
I doubt the static spark has anything to do with the problem. The alternator may not be working. That could have caused the battery to go dead, and the gages and fan not to work if they aren't getting enough voltage. Even with a bad battery, the alternator should be able to hold the system voltage at 14 volts with the engine running. |
