Car does not crank

Car does not crank

I have 2001 Toyota Corolla. When I turn on the ignition switch the engine does not crank but there is a rapid crik, crik, crik, .... sound coming from the hood.

I tried to jump start and the same rapid crik, crik, crik, .... sound coming from the hood. It sounds like there is some problem with the solenoid switch? Am I correct? How can I fix it? Will it cost a lot of money?

txgreasemonkey Cars & Trucks Expert Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Undisclosed, Republic of Texas Posts: 4,484	Disconnect battery terminals and clean. While negative battery terminal is disconnected, try cleaning the starter solenoid's contacts. If that does not solve the problem, replace the starter solenoid.
