Car dealer repairs

Asked Nov 11, 2007, 07:36 AM — 4 Answers
I always wondered if my judgement is correct about car repairs. When my toyota
Needs a more advance repair like I an alternator, or water pump I went to the dealer
Who was overpriced. But the job was done correctly.

In the past repairs done at pepboys, sears , were cheaper, but I had to go back for corrections. And the problems were misdiagnose on some occasions.

I often wonder. What auto chain has the most certified mechanics in South Florida?

That depends.

The criteria and definition of "certified" varies: certification can be given at the dealership level, from classes taken online or at a formal training facility, and certification can be from national organizations, like ASE, that require a minimum number of years before a tech can even test. Plus there are numerous areas to be certified in. ASE | Home

Every tech's qualifications may not be certified, either. But you can and should ask to see their credentials.

Misdiagnose is a common factor in some non dealer shops. They just don't have the resources or everyday experiences. When only one brand is worked on you become expert to master diagnostic 'certified' such as myself. We see the problem, take care of it, and see issues that are about to happen like no other shops can. Ie: technical service bulletins.
Yes, the cost is more, and you are always entitled to a second opinion.

Word of mouth is the best advertising for the best place to take your car in the S. Florida area or anywhere.

In general I have had excellent service at pep boys and would say that you have to consider the shop and the specific mechanic. Personally I use a neighborhood mechanic, that lives, works and owns his own shop in my neighborhood.

Hello I would love to try and answer your question there is misdiagnosis in dealers and independent repair shops the big difference is the independent shop cares more about you on a personal level as they want you back the dealers are usally arogent... Some chain stores do not have the highest skilled techs but a good independent repair shop is priceless.. Hope this helps!
