Buying car opinIons

Asked Jun 28, 2012, 08:33 PM — 8 Answers
I am stuck because I've been looking to buy a classic car for some time now and for sale near me are two which idk what to choose from. One is a 72 gto with a 400, however the carburetor leaks gas. I realize this means I could end up paying several 100 for a new one or rebuild it. The second car is a 72 mustang 302 bored over and the body's in nice condition. My budget is 5000 plus another 1000 if I sell my truck. It's 6000 Obo for the gto and 5000 Obo for the stang I wanna know what u would do????

What are you planing on using them for ? I will assume just collection, not every day use?

Have you had either checked over by a mechanic, checking compression and so on.

For collection value it helps to know how many of that year and model were made.
But why not just follow your heart?
And since you have two options, make a low offer on each one til you work your way up to a price you like on one. If the price is right...

Thanks. I plan to make an offer to c what can be done. My heart tells me the mustang because they run in the family.

Lot more 'stsngs of that vintage than GTOS. If you can get the price down, I'd go GTO and Henry runs in our family too? .

It depends if the gto guy calls back.
Even though I currently drive a Chevy pickup, I can never forget Mr. Ford
Gtos are rarer, but I don't feel like buying a new carburetor lol.

Depends what is leaking, might be a simple rebuild or check Ebay. I just bought a used quadrajet for $25 and got a rebuild kit from JC Whitney.
