civic alternator issue

Ok, my civic has been parked for a few years because of a no start situation which TXGREASEMONKEY helped me solve. It was my coil! BUT anyways, now my alternator pulley is not turning, when i start the car i hear a loud noise and the belt starts to smoke. I believe the alt. is frozen (I live in Michigan) so do i replace it or remove it and try to get things moving again?

Bearings likely seized. I would replace the alternator or rebuild it. Rebuilding it involves replacing front and rear bearings, installing new brushes, testing rectifier diodes, and cleaning rotor slip rings. When my alternator goes, I plan on rebuilding it. I already bought the replacement bearings and brushes ($20). Here's how to replace the alternator:
