best gas mileage cars?

I was wondering what cars get the best gas mileage? not the new hybrids or anything just a normal car. I'm looking for a good gas mileage car for pretty cheap. some where around the 30 and up mpg and that is not expensive?
thanks

My 1993 Honda Civic DX, using Mobil 1 5W-30 and synthetic 10W-30 in the manual transmission, gets 42 mpg around town. If I drive 55 to 60 mph on the freeway, I can get up to 56 mpg.

Note that EPA mileage figures are arrived at by lab testing. Therefore its unlikely you will get the same mileage in real world driving. However, the ratings are valuable for comparative purposes. I.E. a vehicle rated at 40MPG will perform better than a vehicle rated at 30MPG.
