    AC 2003 Dodge Ram 1500/5.7 Hemi
    AC Problem 2003 Dodge Ram 1500/5.7 Hemi - Cooling goes away when idling. Cooling goes all the way to about 54 degrees when driving. Tried a gauge on the low side and got reading of about 100 when compressor not running, 65 -70 when running. Compressor kicks in and out and cycles 2 - 5 seconds, clutch spins. Condenser fan doesn't turn as far as I can tell. (It will free wheel). I'm guessing it's a condenser fan problem, unless that cuts out for some reason. Any advice on where to go from here? I was going to put a meter on the condenser fan plug but have no idea how to get those connectors apart. Thanks!

    You need to attach an actual manifold gauge set and check both the high side and low sides--static and while running. It appears you have an overcharge of refrigerant, since the low side gauge, while running, should likely be 32 to 40 psi and you recorded 65 to 70 psi. Similarly, the static pressure of 100 psi appears way too high. Normal static pressures should likely be 70 psi low side and 70 psi high side. I would recover, vacuum, leak test, and recharge the system with the proper amount of refrigerant. Too much refrigerant can be dangerous.

    Be sure to get the exact system operating pressures (psi), refrigerant oil capacity (ounces), and refrigerant capacity (pounds) for your truck.

    You can test your hypothesis of the condenser fan being the problem by placing a large electric fan in front of the condenser, turning it on full blast, and seeing if it makes a big difference.

    Tx; Thanks for that quick response! This system has never been touched since it was new, any idea how it could be overcharged? Also I hope this isn't too dumb of a question, when you say static do you mean engine running and ac off? Appreciate letting me pick your brain.

    That would be very unusual. The problem may be that you need to use a professional manifold gauge set--the readings you got may be bogus.

    The static pressure test is when the engine is off. The high and low side should register the same pressure.

    The condenser fan on the 2003 and 2004 have a repeat history of the condenser fan motor going bad. It runs at full blast with the AC on. New OEM motor as. From Dodge has a different supplier for this motor. When idling the hi pressure limit trips out on very high pressure. If you order from dealer you must also buy a conversion plug as it is different from the original or just use old plug observing correct polarity.

    OK what is the low side and high side on the gauge ? What should it be? I have a 4.7 dodgedurango 03
