99 Taurus Service Engine Soon light

My car sputtered and shook a little when I turned the engine on. It went away after I drove a short way, then the Service Engine Soon light came on and stayed on. Any ideas on this?

txgreasemonkey Cars & Trucks Expert Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Undisclosed, Republic of Texas Posts: 4,885	The Service Engine Soon light is your computer's way of communicating to you that the car needs servicing. It could be any number of things. Take your car to Autozone and they will hook a scan tool up to the Data Link Connector and tell you what is wrong. They won't charge for this service. Record any Diagnostic Trouble Codes they give you. These codes will tell you what the problem is.
