99 Cavalier Won't go in Gear

99 Cavalier Won't go in Gear

I have a '99 Cavalier. I drove it from work to the store, got out, went in, came back to the car, got in and cranked it. Now, the Theft Lock light is on and it will crank but I can't put it in gear. Any idea what's wrong?
