After replacing Brake Light Switch Now can't shift car out of Park.

I tried to replace the brake light switch to solve my "Brake Lights Remain On" problem. Now I can not get my car out of park. Why can't I now put the car into gear? I have an automatic transmission. 2002 Ford Explorer is my car.

It's part of the shift interlock system. The brake must be depressed for 5 seconds or so, before you can shift out of Park. The shift lock system prevents the shift lever from moving to Reverse from the Park position, unless the brake pedal is depressed and the accelerator is in its rest position. You may have a bad switch and it might have to be replaced before the problem will go away or you just affected the adjustment of the switch. My suggestion is to remove the old switch, clean the contacts, and make sure it works properly. You may want to clean the mechanism and spray with WD-40. Normally, these switches can be serviced and don't need to be replaced. Use a multimeter to perform continuity checks on the switch.
