96 Civic dash lights failure

Recently I was driving at night and my dash board lights went out (head lights still on). I messed with the dimmer switch for the dash lights and they came back on. The next time I drove they went out again and I couldn't get them to come on again. Now I have the dimmer set to max (meaning I want the lights as bright as possible) and they are super dim. What should I do? Thanks!!!!

pull the dimer swicth out check for lose or broken wires on the harness,make sure u are getting a good hook up check your ground wire to on the wireing harness.if everything checks out then replace the dimmer swicth good luck.
