95 Honda Civic EX starting problem
    Hello All,

My 95 Honda Civic EX was sitting in a garage for the last 4 years, I was able to start (after charging the battery) with out any issues, I took it out for oil change after couple of rides, after the oil change it is not starting, it starts only when I hold the accelerator down, as soon as I take my foot of the accelerator it stops. After talking to my friend I put 2 gal of new gas, but no difference. Please help me in fixing this problem. FYI, I never had any engine / starting trouble with this car.

Thanks in advance. I greatly appreciate your help.

It might just need a new battery, cars that are sitting down for that long even when the battery has been charged died quickly.

Holding the gas pedal down acts to clear a flooding problem.

    Perform the tests below:

It could be a bad Ignition Control Module (ICM). This link will provide perspective:

Thanks mmresd, I will try changing the battery, but I noticed the battery looks OK with my battery charger, my friend told me that probably the fuel might got thickened, and having trouble passing through fuel filter.

Yes, gum from the fuel likely developed. I'd siphon all of the old fuel out, change the fuel filter, add fuel injector cleaner, refill with fresh gas, and drive it a lot.

Try changing the battery and maybe get a solution to clear out your gas pipes? You can find them anywhere and they are not that expensive and pretty easy to use. Honda's are easy man, you should be fine, you can just ask around in an AutoZone and someone there should be able to help you (or any other car store place, not promoting that is just where I normally go). I own a '97 Acura Integra, and it has never really been hard to fix any problem that has risen over the years.

    Good Luck,

    Javi
