95 Escort Station Wagon

Dome light(s) are out entirely. Mechanics tried to search why. Have not found cause. Also, door chime or warning bell goes on when opening front doors, back doors, even without a key in the ignition. Doesn't stop until close doors.
Been doing this for a year. Anyone have any answers as to cause and where to look? The manual has nothing about this.

Sounds like some wires are crossed. A good schematic would make figuring this out easier. I have been disappointed with the ones in the Chilton or other brands of guides commonly found in auto stores and libraries. For what one would cost, you may be able to find a real shop manual at www.factorymanuals.com.

as far as the door chime,,it sounds like a contact in the key assembly...try shooting some cleaner in the ignition key..wd40 or cleaner spray

Hey charlie, Welome, does sound like in the ignition switch if no one did any wiring(radio install, etc).
Some vehicles chime if headlights are on and a door is opened.
I would also verify ALL doors chime.
This is a very old Post. usually they aren't answered, good answer though.
