95 Civic LX Will Start But Barely Keeps Running

I have 95 Civic LX 1600 CC Vtec engine, It will start but barely keeps running. This began after changing the ignitor and coil in the distributor. Unfortunately, I was given the wrong ignitor originally. When installed the car ran perfect for two days, then, it fried the computer. Replaced the computer, bought the correct ignitor and the the car started but will not keep running.
It runs as if the timing is severally retarded. It will not idle up to speed and does not idle smoothly. I have to barely keep my foot on the gas pedal to keep it running. If, I press down on the pedal, it will kill the engine and I hear a small backfire. I have not pressure tested the fuel pump, but, when I crack the line at the injector rail it really sprays out fuel. I know the injectors work properly and also the timing is set correctly. The ignitor, pick up and coil are new in the distributor, the rotor is not, nor the cap itself. At this point I am at a loss.

You might want to substitute a known-good distributor--CKP, CYL, or TDC sensors may be damaged. This affects your timing. You might also want to check the MAP Sensor, which acts like a vacuum advance and affects timing too.

nautical28 agrees: Now, I know what other sensors effect timing.
