'92 Honda Accord speedometer problems

Hi my name is Richard,
I have a '92 Honda Accord LX that has a problematic speedometer. I've swapped out the vss unit and replaced the gauge for the speedometer. I've checked for loose wires and found nothing. Sometimes the thing works, then all of the sudden it says I'm going zero miles per hour. I've kind of know how fast I'm driving by glancing at the tachometer when the speedometer was working. Could I've missed something. Any help in solving this problem would be helpful before I decide to take it to the dealer and have them charge me an arm and leg for the repair.
Thanks, Rich

. Check all under-dash and under-hood fuses with a test light or multimeter.
. Check for a possible open between VSS and main ECM ground on the thermostat housing, since the VSS gound is via the ECM.

Thanks txgreasemonkey
But i went to the local junkyard and found the same model/year as mine. Installed the instrument cluster from the junk car and that speedometer and guages worked. the only thing that was different was the light for the cruise control. after dissassembling both instrument clutster and examining them closer I notice some kinda capacitor that looked burnt. so i took the good board and speedometer and put the tach and fuel gauge clusters on the board that wasn't burnt and put the whole thing together. put it in the car and now I know how fast I'm going. wish I had seen it earlier before buying all those parts.
