    92 Civic LX Overheating
    Hi,

I bought a 92 Civic 115k miles, runs great but overheats. Changed radiator, thermostat, relay and hoses. It appears that the fan does not turn on when idling or when I turn it off. When on the highway it runs cool. The mechanics can't find what's wrong. Could it be the sending unit?

    Appreciate suggestions,

I also experienced an irritating OVERHEATING problem with my '94 Civic DX. For about 3-years, I was losing anitfreeze... I needed to always carry a water jug in the trunk! After several trips to the repair shop during which all of the hoses and the thermostat were replaced, I discovered the solution to this elusive problem myself! :) Hopeflly, this will be of benefit to others on this forum!

My problem was that I was slowly losing fluid level from the radiator - eventually, the car would overheat!

THE SOLUTION - finally, logic told me that the dip tube in the overflow tank OR the tubing from the tank to the radiator had to be leaking air... as soon as I replaced them, [I think it cost maybe $3] the problem was solved!! It's too bad that my automotive shop didn't resolve this problem for me on the first visit - it caused me to utter many bad words against this otherwise fine vehicle!

Note: They had replaced the rubber tubing between the overflow tank and the radiator on an early visit - - - what they didn't replace was the overflow tank CAP and PLASTIC DIP TUBE

The #1 thing that cause's civic's to get hot is the radiator cap, they all do it. It will overfill your overflow tank and can also cause it to get air in the system,I would get a new cap and bleed the system for air then see how it gos also a good tip do not buy a cheap cap from autozone cuzz you will just be putting a new one on a in a few weeks or so get an oem honda cap ;)
