90 Civix DX - problem

Hello all,

I think I'm having an accelerator/fuel injection type of problem.

When I start my civic, I'm getting little to no reaction out of my accelerator ie if I press on the gas pedal, the engine will NOT rev... After pressing the pedal for 15-30 seconds, the engine will gradually rev up. Because of this acceleration problem, I can't get the car (std trans) into gears easily...

Drove the car 2 blocks this morning and had to turn around because I had issues getting car into 1st gear. When I got home the engine was smoking... Could not see the source of the smoke, smelled burning plastic/rubber.

Any ideas people?
