-89 Honda Civic won't start

Hi everyone.

My Honda Civic recently stopped starting altogether. I was in a hurry to get something when it happened, I was driving out from my yard and had to stop quickly so the engine shut off, then when I tried to start it again it didn't want to.

I checked for ECU codes but I only got the "Hello" and "Goodbye" codes.

I can crank the car but it just won't start. Then I checked for spark and there was no spark so I changed the Distributor Rotor and Distributor cap which I thought might be the problem but that wasn't it. I then checked the Ignition Coil but the tests showed no problems.

Could the Igniter Unit be the problem? I've had trouble doing the check mentioned in the FAQ because I've never done something like this before(So forgive me for asking before doing this).

Is there anything I can do to locate the source of the problem? I read the FAQ at the top of this forum but a lot of it seemed dependent upon the ECU codes; sorry if I missed something.

Thanks for any help you may have.

The best, and cheapest, way to identify the problem is to run through the steps outlined in sections A and B below:

Be sure and test all under-dash and under-hood fuses with a test light or multimeter. Here's how:

If the car is a "keeper," then I would replace the igniter, coil, and main relay. Be sure the Check Engine Light comes on for 2 seconds and then goes out, when the ignition switch is turned to ON. Make sure you can hear the fuel pump run during the 2 second period. Listen for the click of the main relay.

The CEL comes on for 2 seconds and I can hear the fuel pump run during that 2 second period. I don't know how the Main Relay should sound but I do hear a click just when I turn the ignition switch on and then another click when the CEL goes off.

edit:

Also checked fuses. I don't know how the Main Relay is supposed to sound/feel but that shouldn't be the problem since it cranks right?
