| 89' honda civic battery boiling over I just started having a problem where my battery boils over after driving for a little while.I haven't replaced the alternator so i'm pretty sure it is the right voltage because it has been working fine for almost two years that I have owned the car.I just put in a brand new battery and was hoping everything would be ok but when I put the new one in I removed one of the terminals while the car was running and the cooling fan started revving up at a real high rpm and then went back to normal when I put the battery terminal back on.So I knew something had to be wrong so I drove it home and shut it down and after it sat for a little while I noticed a stream of liquid coming from under the car so I popped the hood and sure enough the battery had boiled over and there was acid all over the engine. And when I was on the way home the engine started sputtering like it was misfiring. Now the car wont start at all and i'm thinking it could be a number of things that are now ruined from the electrolyte. But what I want to know is why is the battery boiling over like that when it has the same alternator that has been ok for two years. And what might it be that is making the car misfire like that.It wouldn't even make it up my hill. Thanx to any help. Donald garrant |
