4 wheel drive won't lock in on a 1994 GMC s-15 Jimmy

I have a 1994 GMC S-15 Jimmy with electric shift 4 wheel drive, truck will not shift in to 4wheel drive when running or moving, but will sometimes shift into 4 wheel drive if the key is turned back to auxaliary. When in run the switch will not even light up or making any sounds, when in auxilary you can here the solenoid kicking in an out. If any one has any ideas that would be great.
