1999 Chevy Cavilier water pump needs replacement

1999 Chevy Cavilier water pump needs replacement. How much will this cost? This car has given my daughter a headache ever since she bought it about 2 years ago. She wants to sell it instead of fixing it because she has heard it will be an expensive fix and she is tired of all the problems with this car. Also, how much should she ask for it? Its in good condition (except for the water pump). It has a few "dings in it. New CD player. Color is white. Interior in very good condition.

Selling a car that is not in running order will take any profit out of the vehicle. She will have to sell it for far less than if she did the reair and then put it up for sale. Would you buy a car you couldn't test drive?

It all depends on if you take the vehicle to an independent mechanic or a dealership; if they put a new, remanufactured or used part in,; what the mechanic's in your area charge for an hourly rate; etc.

Who determined that the water pump is bad? Is it leaking or making noise?

I hear that when the water pump on a 2.4L motor goes out, the timing chain also should be replaced. You have to take the timing cover off anyway. Im not sure about the other motor though (ecotech.) What motor does the car have in it? I have a 2002 cavalier Z24 w/ 200000k, not running now because I hope something simple, I have had no other problems but miner, coil replacment, wheel barings. if you find out what it costs, please let me know because a new water pump might be in my own future. good luck.
