1997 Chev Suburban Dash lights out

Friend of mine has a Suburb and dash board lights are out and hard to see while driving. Anyone know if this is common issue? American Cars suck. Always something they all have in common. Good thing I got a Honda.

Hi this is Macksmom's husband....I have been a mechanic for years...got bored and logged in here

Most likely it needs a cluster....an IPC (instrument panel cluster).

The first thing you should be doing is verify the IPC lights aren't dimmed with the thumbwheel control switch (located next to the headlamp switch). Also, check the fuses: PK LPS fuse 20 amp. This fuse provides power to various interior lamps and switch backlighting.

If that isn't the problem the cluster can be removed and just the bulbs replaced... this is relatively simple and is much less expensive than the whole cluster.
