Trouble with neutral

I have a 2001 camry and my battery died and Im pretty sure I need a new one. It's an automatic and I can't even get it in neutral to push it out of my garage. How can i get it in neutral and what is causing the gear not to shift?

On the shifter console, there is a little cover that you have to remove. This is called the manual over ride. I use a pocket screwdriver. Then push the button down under that cover, and manualy shift into neutral.
