poor POWER STROKE fuel milage

i just bought an 06 ford f250 w/ the 6.0 diesel engine and have heard all the pros and cons about these trucks. i have plenty of power to tow my camper and work trailer, does not smoke, and does not leak. the only problem i am having is poor fuel mileage, empty or loaded it will not get much better than 10/12 mpg. friends have told me i need a free flow intake, exhaust, and a programer. one would have to think that a stock truck should get better mpg before all the add ons. the dealer has recmmended a 300.00 fuel system cleaning but i am not interested in spending 300 on some thing i just bought because it is concidered routine maintenance.

Using full-synthetic lubricants in the engine, transmission, and differential should increase gas mileage at least 10%. Look into installing a by-pass engine oil filter, in order to get your money's worth from the synthetic engine oil.
