1992 Honda Accord Idling, Revs high & low

Hello, My 1992 honda accord is idling, reving high and low, it just goes up and down. Could anyone help me find out why it is doing this. It doesn't do it all the time, but it is doing it more and more. It does this when ever I am sitting still...like at a red light or when I start it up. It runs fine when I am going. I have replaced, main relay, timing belt, fuel pump, wires, plugs, and more things. Any help would Great. Thank You

Thank You so much, You do explain everything so good, even though it is all greek to me ....I have spent so much money on my car trying to get it fixed Right. It goes Back the shop Tuesday and this time I wanted to know in advance what is wrong before I let it be worked on again. When you spoke of Heat and poor preventive maintenance are frequently causes of ICM & coil to fail, that doesn't mean like outside tempture does it? Don't laugh ,I am trying to learn about my car. I live in Florida so it is Hot here a lot. Since I have had the car I have tried to keep the maintance up as it should be. I have had the car about 5 years. Within the last 6mos. I have replaced the main relay, fuel pump(they said I had to have a Carter fuel pump),timming belt, balance shaft belt? I think that is what it was called,p.s. belt,a/c belt there were 3 belts altogether, valve cover gasket, rotor (Ign),... again for the 2nd time Ign. Rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter. I have replaced more things, but that was a while ago. The tachometer does go up and down just like you described, so hopefully this time it will be done right. I am printing out your response. Is there anyway that I could fix this, condering I know nothing about a car....But I would Love to know how to work on my own car!

Here's how you can replace the igniter yourself:

Here's what the igniter looks like and costs:

Zip Code Entry at PartsAmerica.com

Following the recommended maintenance suggestions will save you a bundle of money, over time:

The heat I'm referring to mainly comes from the engine.

Because of the age of your Accord, I would replace the igniter and coil at the same time. It's good you have already replace the main relay. It's very important to maintain the integrity of these fundamental electrical components.

a couple possible things i know of. It seems like a vaccuum leak of some sort. spray arond the intake manifold and lines with starting fluid or carb spray you will know when you have found the leak. If you took off the throttle body you make have cracked the gasket that will for sure cause those symptoms. good luck

Thank You massaro, Where is the intake manifold? When I said in my first post that I had replaced all of the things I listed...I had it done, I didn't do it myself. Also would the throttle body been taken off to do any of the work I have had done? I don't even know what the throttle body is. I am trying to learn about my car now after having a lot of work on it and it still isn't right.
