Filters can be located at any point between the fuel tank and the engine fuel rail. The most common placement is mounted on the underside frame rail between the fuel tank and engine. Usual placement is in front of the right-rear wheel. Remember to depressurize the fuel system first. This is sometimes done by removing the gas cap and other times by starting the car and removing the wire to the inertia switch in the trunk, until the engine stumbles.
