1990 honda civic hatchback dx

problem starts when i waited for a train, shut off the motor and kept lights and stereo on, next day tried to boost it, nothing, then tried changing the battery, nothing....so when towing we bump started it by popping the clutch and putting it in first, so it runs, but wont start. We get it home and look at the spark plugs, filled with oil. So at first i just cleaned the spark plugs and contacts, then it starts whala. running for a bit so then it happens again, so okay i figure ill take off the valve cover, change the gaskets and spark plug o rings and spark plugs, so put it back together and nothing. Bump start it and it works, and sparks and everything.
So im kind of stuck here, when i turn the key it doesnt crank or click or anything...all i hear is a small hum, a very faint buzz. So any suggestions...i checked the main fuse...so could this be a starter or ignition switch?

FI have 2 hondas a 1990 and a 1991.. First you have to figure if you have spark, power, etc. It may be the starter that needs replacing or it may be the starter wire is loose or got knocked loose. Also check the rodor switch since you have replaced the spark plugs because sometimes the rotor switch can do the same thing that you described but not be spark plug related... and also check the battery connections as well because I recently had to replace them in my 1990 Honda. Good Luck!

Oh.. Again check the ignition switch as well because that buzzing can definitely be from the ignition. You are so right! It can be the other things that I said like a bad starter, connections, etc but I am not sure. Auto Zone may can do a free check for you if you can get it started, they did for my Honda many times.

Also check the Alternator.. Do you have any power?? Does your lights come on?? If not then it has to be something related to the battery, alternator, etc.

As I recall, Honda has more than one lead coming from the battery positive. Make sure all of these wires are intact and tight. Check the negative side, also. Check your fuse block for obviously blown fuses. Always replace any fuse with the same size. It sounds like you have some functions but not others.
