Does my Honda Accord need an undercoating to protect from the wintery salt errosion?

Hello,
I live in Florida and I plan on buying a new 2007 Honda Accord within the next month. I will also be moving to Connecticut after two months for good. My question is: Do I need a protective undercoating spray on the underneath of the car to protect it from wintery salt errosions? If such undercoating is needed, do I buy the car from CT and is the undercoating free in the North from dealers?

Please advice.
Thank you.
Tariq

If you are going to get undercoating, try and get it done at the factory; i.e., before the car is even delivered to the dealer. If it's done by the dealer, moisture and dirt can be sealed in and the benefits are reduced substantially. I got this advice first-hand from the head of corrosion research for the Air Force, Wright-Patterson AFB.

Here in Quebec, we have special oil sprayed every winter to prevent that.

Honda does not offer a factory undercoating option (even if the dealer says they do). All Hondas already have undercoating from the factory. I would advise against any additional undercoating as it will usually create more problems by retaining moisture. It may provide some additional sound deadening which isn't bad. Some undercoating jobs spray inside the doors which clogs the drainholes, making them rust quicker.
