03 accord radio lighting

Has anyone had any luck getting the lighting from the 03 honda accord backlighting on radio/display panel repaired. Honda will "replace" the entire radio unit (898.00) to repair the led lights?????? What is the deal with that???

Hi, I am actually a technician for Honda, and I will tell you a secret.... Honda is a great company!!! It is a known issue with the radios on these cars, and if you call American Honda a raise a stink about it, 95% chance they will "goodwill warranty" it for you. Just say "I love my Honda, and have owned Hondas before, but to hear I have to spend almost $1000 dollars to fix a known issue with the radio......" I replace these radios ALL THE TIME and have yet to have one that the customer actually paid for. Always warrantied. Give it a shot and good luck.

Sorry, just to add a little more info... they don't replace any lights or LEDs. There is actually a resistor on the circuit board that burns. We originally were replacing the entire audio unit (electronics portion, but not the screen/buttons). Now we have to crack the radio open and replace just the circuit board only. This is probably due to costs accruing that Honda is trying to keep down.
