in most US cities, you go to city hall and pay a set fee for the type of business you are gong to have.

If your business is retail and you have sells tax to collect you will have to set up a tax number and permit with the county/state.

Well here is a list with all the states.
SBA: WHERE TO OBTAIN BUSINESS LICENSES

You have to get a TIN -Tax Identification Number and they will tell you what all you have to apply for and do. If you want a name for your business other than your name you have to pay for a fictitious name search and permit.

You might want to check with your local Small Business Assoc. and they should go through everything with you and tell you insurances and everything you will need.

Are you sure that you need to obtain a cleaning license in order to clean? Around where I live, I have never known it to be a requirement.

A cleaning license is not required that I know of, but business licenses and tax licenses, insurance, etc.....
IF she wants to be legitimate.
