Starting a painting business

I am adding a paint service to my current business. I need to know if I need a special kind of license in order to start offering painting as one of my services

Do you currently have some sort of contractors license ?

I mean if you own a taco shop, its business license is not going to cover a painting service.

It does depend on where you are located as to whether or not you need some kind of license. So, I would suggest speaking with city officials where you will be working as to the need for a license or not.

One of the things that I do for a living is that I am a house painter. Where I live and work, there is no need for me to be licensed as a painter. However, I did have to get the correct type of liability insurance. Depending on the specifics as to what you are going to do as a painter, i.e., paint both the insides and outsides of places, or, paint just the insides or outsides, have the ability to carry ladders or not on a truck, advertise on your truck, etc. These are just some of the factors that make a difference in the way your liability insurance is. It gets pretty specific as to what exactly you are doing as a painter.
