i have a job offer at saks fifth avenue for working full time in kids department at 10 an hour with 3% commision. On the other hand i have a job offer with Nordstrom working as a Loss prevention agent (the one i wanted) at 12 an hour. Both of the jobs are full time and they have benefits so i am just wondering which one should i do??

I like Norstrom's stuff better personally and commission can be shaky unless you do really great with it.

First off, congratulations on getting job offers at two separate places! That's cool!

If you go for the job with the commission, that might end up equaling the job for pay that is the $12.00 an hour one. From my own viewpoint, since I am good at selling things, I would be lean more to take the one that had some guaranteed pay and also had the possibility of making some commission on top of that.

How good do you feel that you are at selling things?

i have been in sale since i was 14 and then before then...my family owns merle normans anyway i have been in retail for along time im good as a salesperson but that is why i wanted to go for the loss pervention that is the job i wanted and my boyfriend is going ot be a cop so we could have something else in common haha

It sounds like you want to try something different other than sales. So, my recommendation is to go where your heart is leading you and learn some different things that could, in the future, further your career because you will have learned how to do them.

yeah the loss prevention (cop) sounds more promising as far as job promotion

Generally I'd say that if you can afford it now, go for the sales job and in a year or two try to use it as a stepping stone to selling more expensive things where the commission would be higher.

Although the commission can be iffy, it takes only $67 of sales to earn $2 at 3%. Even if there are some hours where you don't sell much, over the course of a week, you'll probably do better than $67 per hour in sales.

On the other hand, if you really prefer to be in an enforcement type setting, which I personally find unrewarding, then do that. You'll be happier than if you were in sales.

What are the career advancement options in either store? Both are well recognized stores and I would think upward mobility would be there in both places. Just depends on your goals. The loss prevention job offer could be very promising, career wise.
