About 5 years ago I read a book that I would like to read again if only I could remember what it was called. I wish I could remember more about it, but alas I can not. All I can remember is it dealt with an underground civilization that was being explored and they turned out to be rather violent. I believe that the military was sent in to fight them off and they ended up being beaten really badly since I seem to remember reading about all the corpses that were seen by a group on their way down. I also think I remember the creatures being sensitive to light and so there was a plan to lure them into a stadium of some sort where the lights could be used against them. At the beginning of the book I think it was talking about an explorer who found one of the entrance to the caves and ended up falling in and they could hear the creatures coming closer, but they would not come close enough to get them until either a flashlight, or a lighter was extinguished. Hopefully the little I can remember might be enough. Thanks.

Well apparantly my subconcious answered the question for me. I was seeing the trailer on tv for the movie called The Descent which was why I wanted to find this book in the first place and then something clicked and told me to look for a book title with Descent in the title and I found out that the book has the same title as the movie although I do not think the movie is based off the book.
