Quotes that have influenced your life

Hello all! I've been abundantly blessed by my virtual coffee chats with so many of you in this wonderful forum on Books and Literature! (The Relationship forum is fun too, but this is where inspiration comes from... "the stuff dreams are made of" )

Anyways... We all have favorite quotes, quotes that have touched a chord in our hearts and minds, quotes that have influenced our decisions, inspired us to go that extra mile, give us courage to face the day, and shown us what real living is like.

Lets share these divine inspirations with our little world here - on this little posting. I'll start with one of my all-time favorites....

Being a star-gazer myself and being the proud owner of a tempestuous personal history, this is one of my favorites - it reminds me that no matter what is swirling around me at a given time, I can get through it.

"The most tempestuous wind cannot disturb the quiet of the stars."

Literary wishes and Shakespearean dreams,
HistorianChick

A touch of Shakespeare this morning....

All the world 's a stage, and all the men and women merely players.
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts
~Shakespeare~
As You Like It, Act II, Scene VII

Be not afraid of greatness:
some are born great,
some achieve greatness
and some have greatness thrust upon them.
~Shakespeare~
Twelfth Night, Act II, Scene V

When you do dance, I wish you
A wave o' th' sea, that you might ever do
Nothing but that.
~Shakespeare~
The Winter's Tale, Act IV, Scene IV

The main quote/motto (thought/idea) that got me into a lot of trouble:
by a personal friend who is no longer with us: "The only time I ever said no was when they asked if I'd had enough"

Quotes and mottos that got me out of bad places and changed my life are:
Don Henley: "I will not go quietly"
Van Halen: "I"ve been to the edge where I stood and looked down, I lost a lot of friends there...I go no time to mess around"
Albert Einstein: "Imagination is more important than knowledge."
My Mom (but I think it's from the Bible): "This too shall pass"
Bo Lazoff: "We have to learn control...so we can give up control"

HistorianChick agrees: "This too shall pass." Love it! Thanks! :)

My passion has always been photography. But was going trough a rough time during the bussy Christmas portrait season. This quote made me in to what I am today, a freelance photographer and loving it.

"Photography is the art that allows us to cature time and even cheat death"
Caroline Cheavin Everitt

Also, this one inspired me"

"It is better to have tried and failed, then never to have tried at all"
(Author unknown)

Finally:

"Life is to short to be miserable. Only you can change your life"

Comments on this post
HistorianChick agrees: Ahhh... excellent quotes! The first one reminded me of The Portrait of Dorian Gray... very interesting book. I love photography as well! Welcome to my thread! :)

I have tried lately to read Shakespeare, and found it so intolerably dull that it nauseated me. (Sorry HC)

life1973happened agrees: That makes two of us and you're not alone in needing to hear it. Isn't this what we all strive for in the end? I know I do and I find comfort in that simple hope.

OH, I just remembered another quote I heard that really made me think. Sorry I don't know who wrote it.

The object of life is not to arrive at our grave nicely preserved to be burried. It is to arrive 5 minutes late for your funeral, sliding in sideways, with a smile on your face and saying "Man, what a ride". Only then will you have lived.

"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."

"Assimilate this!!"

Sorry people... quotes were from Star Trek today... I'll come up with better ones later, but for now, that works for me!
