Name of a book

I read a book in the mid-80's about a boyfriend and girlfriend that got killed on a road where several previous accidents had occurred. Their ghosts had to find a way to "fix" the road so that no one else would die there, and when they succeeded, the story went back to just before they died. By fixing the road, they undid their deaths, I guess. It's one of those really short little chapter books for middle school age kids.

Does anyone have any clue as to the name of the book or the author or anything?????
