Need inspiration for articles

I have to write some articles for a web site but don't know where to get inspiration from; I don't want my work to sound the same as all the others! Any suggestions??

(The articles are to be about homes/improvements/decor etc but can be regarding any subject within this field)

I'd suggest you pick a specific area. Say if you're doing home values or kitchen remodeling or decorating a bathroom... Then from there you do your homework. Read, read, read. Talking to a contractor, realtor, decorator or two would be a good idea as well.

Secondly, if you don't want it to sound the same as all the others.... Well, be yourself. Use your words and add personality to it and you'll be fine.

Or, pick a type of reader to target. For example, you could write an article for the complete novice, the procrastinator, the budget-conscious, etc. Perhaps gearing How-to projects to different types of do-it-yourselfers. Another idea is to pick things that are topical...if Brazilian cherry floors are IN, write an article about that. Same goes for solid surface counters, stonewalls, lighting, funky sinks, appliances, antiques etc. When something is hot, readers appreciate articles with product comparisons (quality, pricing, pros, cons) because you save them from doing their own research.
What's hot? Read magazines, ask builders, poll stores like Home Depot and Lowes on what's selling.

Good luck :-)
