Children's book

When I was in elementary school I had a children's book which was out the same time as Strawberry Shortcake, the 1980's. One of the characters of the book was a fly named Horace which was the helper of a spider. The spider disliked the little people of the town and always looked for ways to capture them or disrupt their pleasant life. It was something like the Smurfs with Gargomolye. Can someone please help me with the name of the book and the author?

Thanks
