I am trying to find the title of a book I read a long time ago
but I can't remember it. I just remeber that it was written by an
African author and it was a story about a young girl who falls in love
with her teacher and couldn't marry him because he was of lower class
other men however pursue to get her attention. In that culture (Nigeria I think) they believed that if a young man cut a lock of hair from a woman the woman was bound to marry the man so one of the guys who tries to make her
his wife cuts a lock of her hair the next day she shaves her hair and
throws the hair away so no one would believe that he actually cut her
hair. But in the end after many hardships she marrries the teacher who
stole her heart and dies giving birth to their first child. She tells
him to name their daughter joy after their first bed and dies. So my
question is, does anyone know what the title of this book is I really
appreciate all your help.
