| if you haven't already - don't do it! Can get in the way for emergency medical stuff and it DOES make you harder to understand. Also will affect job interviews in the future and believe it or not you WILL get to the point where you wish you hadn't! |

| well im deff going to get it done,i have considered all the facts you stated,i have been looking into this for several months..also i have been told there is a plastic thing you can put in place of the ring to hide it..so just the few days following the piercing are my concern i guess.. |

| sounds like you've got it covered - from what I hear the first couple days are just 'a pain in the butt' because it's like when you bite your lip-you can't keep your tongue off it? when you get the piercing done, you'll be subconsciously trying to rub off the new thing your tongue feels. Friend says it's just annoying and you'll be able to talk, most probably just feel and sound like you just came from dentist, but nothing too drastic. Ice chips help. Good luck and I hope it all works out. Let me know what you have them put in. |

| my son is 17 and he has his bangs dyed green (actually looks pretty cool) and I was real skeptical at first. Hang in there. You'll be OK. They'll probably tell, but just incase they don't, stay away from stuff that normally sticks in your teeth (like broocoli lol) and stuff like spaghetti that's thin and stringy or really spicy stuff for a couple days, just until the initial soreness eases up. It'll help to aggravate anything for you. Believe it or not, it's a lot about attitude, cuz if you think it'll be OK, it will. Good luck and let me know how it goes. |

| You are asking for a load of problems if you have this done. Your ball is going to keep hitting the backside of your teeth and you will constantly be "clicking" when you talk. Your mother has every right to be nervous about this procedure also. May I suggest Googling for tongue piercing problems? After reading some of the horror stories and you still wish to continue and have this done..... good luck to you. Mom, if you are reading this... do not do this as you will be sorry in the end. She is too young at age 16 for this kind of pain.
Read some of the other posts on here about how their tongue is swollen up and they cannot talk or eat. If you wish this kind of "fun" you need your head examined. Some tongues that have been incorrectly pierced have resulted in death. Need I say more. |

| First off, have you checked with your local piercer to make sure you can even get it done? When I got mine done you weren't allowed to get your tongue pierced even with an adults consent before you were 18....but then again that was 8 years ago, so things may have changed.
At any rate....it will hurt.
I have had my tongue pierced a total of 3 times. Got my first when I was 18, then I added a second barbell about 6 months later. I ended up taking both out a year or so later. I just got it repierced about 2 years ago.
The most common thing to happen is for your tongue to swell. This is painful and annoying. The swelling makes it uncomfortable, and somewhat impossible, to eat regular food. Lots and lots of liquids or soft foods. The swelling can effect how you speak for the first week or so, but some people have more trouble than others. I was a waitress when I got mine pierced for the first time. It was sore and somewhat difficult to talk, but I did it all day at work.
Just make sure to follow ALL the aftercare instructions you get from your piercer. The mouth is the perfect breeding environment for bacteria...which makes your piercing prone to infection if not taken care of properly.
Ice cold drinks and crushed ice helps ease the pain and swelling.
Good luck. |

| Oh, and if you have a good piercer, your barbell shouldn't hit your teeth (or "click") at all when you talk. |
