How old do you have to be to get a body piercing without parental consent?

I'm 16 years old. For two years I've been asking my mom if it would be ok if I got my eye brow pierced. She wouldn't be paying for it, my Dad would. (they're divorced) But she's persistently said no, no and no. So, the final time I ask, I want it to go like this, "I really don't want to have to do this without your consent...", but I need to know if it's legal.

it is real easy at 18 you can get it done, that is very disrespectful to your mother, you need to tell her you are sorry. So you can't get it, and have to wait.

I'm going to be moving out of California in September, and I want it done before then because my Dad only lives 30 minutes away, and he's traditionally went with me to get a peircing once a year. This will be the last time I get it done, because I'll be moving to Arkansas. I won't be living with my mom, and she's the only one whose got a problem with it, but I feel that she will consent any time now. I just want to know if it's legal, just in case.

why would you want to pierce your eyebrow? Well you gotta be 18 to do it without consent. So no it is not legal. The people who do it for you (without consent) can get in trouble. Who knows by the time you reach 18 you might not want it anymore.

And there's no need for you to be rude to your mother about it either.

Your mother can sue the person who does it if you do it without her concent, unless you do it yourself. You will still have to have your mom or dad there to get it done and you might as well just wait untill you are at a legal age of 18. This way your mother will be ok and you will enjoy it more because it is the RIGHT WAY!

I was born and raised in Arkansas and have been displaced on the East Coast for the last 20 + years, but I can tell you this. Don't feel like you need a piercing to fit in - still pretty conservative in the rural areas.

I'm from the southeastern area of the state called the ArkLaMiss and was there last November. Nothing much has changed in that part of the world since I moved away in 1985.

Technically only one parent has to consent. The bigger issue is that you may be putting a strain on your relationship with your mom for no reason. You have plenty of time to get piercings. You only get one mom. It makes it even harder on your mom as she and your father have differing views. At this point I think respecting your mom would go a long way toward her eventually saying yes. You may want to give her your logical reasons for wanting this done. As she sees maturity in you she may start thinking of letting this be your choice. If not, you don't have that much longer till your 18 and can do this without upsetting your relationship with your mom. This is a tough age and even tougher with divorced parents. As hard as it is.........remember that your mom does have reasons for her beliefs. There is nothing saying that at a future time you cannot get this done with dad. Please think about this from both points of view. You may be glad in the long run. Cathy
