It all depends on your tolerance for pain. It didnt hurt me, but you and I may not have the same tolerance for pain, you see? I know it sounds silly, but you will never know until you get it done.
As far as playing Rugby, that could be a problem. Make sure you do everything you can to protect yourself (first and foremost

) and your piercing. As long as you take care of it correctly, it should treat you right. If it is constantly getting bumped and hit while playing Rugby, it may be more beneficial to you if you take it out. As of right now, just see what happens.
Dont be scared. If you go into the shop with the mentality that it is going to hurt, it is a good chance it will. Make sure you eat a good meal and drink a lot of water before getting the piercing. The night before you get it, take an Ibuprofen before bed, and take another when you wake up in the morning. This can help with the pain.
I know you are scared of the needle, but that really is the best way to get your cartilage pierced. It is more sterile and better for you in the long run. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
