    Dangers related to tattooing?
I don't have tattoos nor do I plan to get one,but I do wonder about all those who have tattoos...
(I do have pierced ears though (just one in each ear :))

Are there dangers related to tattooing?

Does it effect the skin?or cells underneath?
As the body ages does this effect the tattoos at all?

Or dangers of poisoning?Maybe allergies caused due to the ink?
Is there anyway to remove tattoos?

    Thank you in advance.

Tat equipment not being cleaned properly; auto clave not operating properly and not up to temp is a danger sign for STDs such as Hepatitis, etc. but people don't normally realized that until after.

A tat parlor was closed down two years ago in Oshawa, Ontario just for this reason. Many people had to go the agonizing wait of being tested and restested for STDs.

Tatooing involves injecting the cells of your skin with permanent ink. Infection can result from the use of unsanitary needles. An allergic reaction is always possible as well. Tatoos can only be removed surgically via skin grafting. The resulting scar is generally as conspicuous as the original tattoo.

Skin grafts are only taken for very large tattoos. To get rid of a normal sized tattoo, laser removal is the method used.

There are some risks of danger related to tattooing. If you go to a dirty shop that uses unsterilized needles, Hepatitis is one risk. If the tattoo was done improperly, or the person who got the tattoo constantly picks at it, infection is also possible. Tattoo related infections can become quite nasty.

The biggest effect on your skin is the scarring. A tattoo is virtually one giant scar with ink in it. Even if you get the ink laser removed, the scarring still remains. This is why one should only get a tattoo if they are prepared to live with it for life.

Aging does affect the tattoo. As we grow older, our skin loses the elasticity that it had when we are younger. If you have a tattoo, for example, on your arm, when the elasticity is gone in that area, the tattoo will sag and become distorted. It doesn't look pretty, but that is one of the things that comes along with having a tattoo.

If a person getting a tattoo is not careful and does not do the proper research, allergic reaction to the ink is possible. You need to now what you are allergic to, and you need to research as to what ingredients and elements are in the ink that is used for tattooing. Asking your tattoo artist would be a good way to do that.

Anyway, I hope this answers some of your questions. :)

Thank you tickle, cianci and nauti for your inputs.

With all these dangers involved I find that there are many who are willing to risk it and get a tattoo.

Honestly, there are a lot of people that go out and get tattoos spontaneously, before they even stop to think about what the risks are. The thing in a lot of people's heads is "I want one, therefore I'm going to get one". They don't stop and think "what could possibly happen to me?'.

These things should always be thought through before being done. A lot of times, when people get body art done, they regret it in the future. Even with piercings, you should be prepared to deal with possible scarring. Tattoos aren't the only thing that scar.

I agree with you nauti, impulsiveness.

I knew a girl who got her ear pierced with someone's earing while in school. And she has had more piercings and I don't even want to imagine where she got the others done.

Piercings everywhere seem to be a new trend in my community too,we have always had women with their ears or nose pierced, but now I find that there is little that cannot be pierced on the body.

    I am not that brave.lol

Not to soiund advocating them, but the biggest danger is most likely the drive in your car to go to their shop. The shops that use proper methods, and the such have little problem, if you are doing it in your kitchen with homemade gun ( yes there are 1000's of teens who do this every year) that is totally different risks
